III. Description of the Artifact and It's Significance

A section of the lunch counter and four chairs removed from the Greensboro, NC Woolworth. The counter had been the site of a famous sit-in by the Greensboro Four during the civil rights movement. This artifact symbolizes the many sit-ins that took place in many towns across the south and were instrumental in achieving desegregation at lunch counters in all dining establishments.
